Mounting an Algebraic Equation

Each sentence expressed as an algebraic equation.
SentenceAlgebraic Equation
A number increased by nine is fifteen.x + 9 = 15
Twice a number is eighteen.2x = 18
Four less than a number is twenty.x - 4 = 20
A number divided by six is eight.

1. Twice a number is 28 is the same as 2x=28.

2. Three is 21 divided by a number is the same as 3 = 21/x

3. Twelve is sixteen less than four times a number is the same as 12=  4x - 16

Group work

Now it is your turn to write the following problems as equations then find the value of x.

1. Jeanne has $17 in her piggy bank. How much money does she need to buy a game that costs $68?

2. Helen is x years old. In thirteen years she will be twenty-four years old. How old is Helen?

3. Suzanne took  x  dollars from her savings account to buy some presents for Thanksgiving.

Measurement and Volume

I can find the volume of an object using the formulas       V = l x w x h and V = b x h.
Volume = length x width x height

Convert Decimals to Percent

Multiply the Decimal Number by 100, and put the "%" sign so people know it is per 100

Example: Convert 0,125 to percent

Multiply 0,125 by 100:

0,125 × 100 = 12,5

Put the percent sign:

0,125 × 100 = 12,5%

Answer 0,125 = 12,5%

The easy way to multiply by 100 is to move the decimal point 2 places to the right. so:

From Decimal To Percent
decimal to percent       move the decimal point 2          places to the right
       (and add the "%" sign!)
